Family Day? Presidents’ Day? Depending on where you are, you may be at home relaxing today, sitting alone in your pyjamas. Or you might be in the office like any old Monday. Wherever you are, give this song by The Presidents of the United States of America a listen with me as we see what the experts are saying this week.
B2B Buzzword Bingo
Which corporate buzzwords are overused most by recruiters in job posts?
To find out, SimpleTexting compiled a list of the 45 most “cringeworthy” words/phrases and then analyzed 6.6 million LinkedIn US job ads to see which ones appeared most often.
The researchers discovered that “innovator” is the most overused term (82 appearances per 1,000 job posts). Other top offenders include “dynamic”, “team player”, and “proven track record”.
Hmm… it might be time to update my LinkedIn profile and remove some of these terms!
But seriously – if you’re known for being innovative or a standout, then relying on these generic buzzwords will totally confuse all the passing candidates!
Thank You, Canada!
Super Bowl ads are always a great way for a company to stand out. Canadians don’t usually see American ads during the Super Bowl, but this year there was some great Canadian content! In an ad for Canadian whisky company Crown Royal, rock star Dave Grohl thanked Canada for a number of its inventions and contributions:
- Legends of music (Rush, Oscar Peterson, Celine!)
- Heroes of comedy (Eugene, Catherine, Martin & Seth!)
- Peanut butter and poutine (fries with gravy and cheese curds)
- Paint rollers
- Instant potatoes
- …and hockey, basketball, and football!
Canada is pretty innovative, eh?
Enjoy your Monday, and as always, don’t hesitate to call me to brainstorm or just say hello!
Looking forward,
Rick
